What is Azure Service Platform?

Definition of Azure Service Platform

Azure Service Platform is Microsoft’s propriety hybrid cloud offering that enables the development and hosting of the application on Microsoft’s datacenters. It is a combination of IaaS and PaaS services that enables in the development, deployment, management, monitoring, and maintenance of cloud / web applications.  It supports open source REST, SOAP and XML for accessing applications & backend cloud resources.

Brief Description of Azure Service Platform

Azure Service Platform is primarily a hybrid cloud platform combining both IaaS and PaaS under one service platform. It provides a suite of different on-demand cloud services for developing applications that are built, deployed and hosted entirely on Microsoft’s Azure platform. The applications built on it are hosted & executed in Windows Azure OS. Although there are different components/ services of Azure Service Platform but the key components include;

Fabric Controller – service that manages the whole provisioning of compute, storage and other resources to the hosted applications
