What is Cloud Migration?
Definition of Cloud Migration
Cloud Migration is the process of moving all or some of an organization’s applications, infrastructure, and IT services on the cloud. It is the transformation, shifting, and deployment of a company’s IT assets over the cloud. It has two different types; Onsite to cloud infrastructure migration and cloud to cloud.
Brief Description of Cloud Migration
Cloud migration typically involves the deployment of an existing IT infrastructure on cloud hosted infrastructure. Typically, an organization deploys its in-house IT Infrastructure on a private/public/hybrid cloud solution and accesses it via internet. It is a broad and usually complex process that requires careful planning in sourcing and matching the appropriate cloud infrastructure with current and/or future computing requirements. This is achieved through manual designing, architecting and planning process along with automated cloud deployment and migration tools.
Besides on site to cloud based infrastructure migration, cloud migration can also be in between different cloud environments. Such migration is usually done through a cloud integration or migration middleware.
