What is Virtual Circuit?
Definition Virtual Circuit
Virtual Circuit is a connection oriented mean of transporting the data packets virtually by giving an impact of a physical link between the sources and destinations over the packed switched computer networks.
Explanation:
In Virtual Circuits, first of all a pathway is defined and a link is established between the source and required destinations before initializing the transportation call. After establishing the connection, call for sending data is being generated and all data packets are routed and dropped on their destination points on the basis of short addresses stored in those packets along with their data. Virtual Circuits also eliminate the need for storing full unique addresses in those packets as it is a connection oriented approach and it pre-locates all the destinations before initializing the call for data transfer. All the packets are delivered in proper order as path is generated on the basis of data packets placed in a queue.
